Halton Region’s Waste Management Program Enhancements

Residents of Halton Region have embraced the 3Rs-Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Ongoing participation in Blue Box and GreenCart programs has helped to divert more waste from Halton’s landfill. Residents have increased the residential waste diversion rate from 42% in 2007 to 60%- a tremendous achievement! But there is still more we can all do to conserve our landfills, which is a resource worth protecting.

By recycling and composting more, you will have less garbage. Therefore, starting April 1, 2013, Halton Region will be decreasing the garbage limit and introduce “garbage bags” for the garbage above the new limit of 3 bags/cans at the curb every other week.

More than 3 bags/cans will require a “garbage tag”, up to a total of a maximum 6 garbage bags/cans
( 3 untagged and 3 tagged ). The maximum weight per garbage bag/can is 23 Kg ( 50 lbs ). To help with the transition of this new program, garbage tags are complimentary. Starting March 18, 2013, garbage tags will be available at MILTON HOME HARDWARE, 385 Steeles Ave East, Milton. You can pick up the garbage tags at any of our cashiers at Milton Home Hardware during our regular business hours.

Ontario’s Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit can help provide the freedom, confidence and independence to make your home a more comfortable place for years to come.
